Instead of introducing you to a specific artist or reviewing a song or album, today I’m going to be a bit different and introduce you to some YouTube channels. As one of the key websites for musicians, YouTube is obviously great for bands and solo artists to publicise their work, but it is also a great way for music producers, video makers etc. to use the many aspiring musicians out there to their advantage (and ours of course!). Below are a few channels who specialise in recording musicians in many locations with often brilliant results for not only artist publicity but also for our listening pleasure.

La Blogothèque- Founded by Parisian film maker Vincent Moon, La Blogothèque produces videos with all sorts of musicians in stunning locations. From the streets of Paris, to churches and warehouses, they film bands and musicians performing live in stripped back settings.  They showcase artists at their simplest and finest with often incredible results. Some of the artists featured include The Lumineers, Lianne La Havas and Beirut amongst hundreds of others! View the channel HERE.

The Mahogany Sessions- Similarly to the above, The Mahogany sessions features acoustic performances by many artists. Mahogany sessions is based in London and has a big focus on exposing local and up-and-coming musicians from the capital and around the UK. The company was founded by Mark Murdoch in 2009, starting as a music blog, but has since extended to record nearly 300 videos. Artists often perform backstage at gigs or on location at festivals as well as other locations. Artists that have performed for The Mahogany Sessions include First Aid Kit, Everything Everything and Bastille. View the channel HERE.

Secret Sessions- This channel provides both acoustic music performances and interviews with artists as big as Stereophonics as well as with numerous smaller artists (and everything in between), in fact Charlotte Church has even performed for them! Secret Sessions is definitely a channel of diversity, with everything from Ben Howard to The Wurzels! Videos are often recorded in homely, relaxed settings giving them a personal feel. View the channel HERE.

Cargo Videos/Le Cargo- It seems the French know how to do live music videos! Le Cargo is a music website focusing on alternative music that publishes articles and videos to their corresponding YouTube channel, Cargo Videos. The company seems to be based on the idea of a cargo ship, travelling the world to find new music. Many French artists such as Cocoon and Syd Matters have performed for the channel as well as international artists including Angus & Julia Stone and Swiss-German duo Boy. View the channel HERE.
